NYRO Technix Inc. is now taking pre-orders for its NYRO Open Source CD, a compilation of software the company has developed over the years. To be included on the disc is VirtSpace, the “virtual window manager” developed by NYRO.
NYRO started life in the early 1990s as a developer of drivers for NeXT Computer Inc. and Canon. The Open Source CD to be published by NYRO will include VirtSpace for Mac, Windows and NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP. Additional software to be included are OnVacation, ReadReceiptPlus and Fax Panel API (nee Faxcess), all for NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP.
VirtSpace enables users to create a virtual, scrolling desktop up to a hundred times the size of their monitor. Users pan and click to access new areas. As part of the Open Source CD announcement, NYRO Technix will offer a US$500 reward to the first developer able to successfully port VirtSpace to Mac OS X.
NYRO Technix Inc. is accepting pre-orders for the Open Source CD for $39.99 each. The company warned that unless a minimum number of pre-release orders is received, the discs will not be produced. For details, visit the VirtSpace Web site.
