Apple’s own Games Web site takes a look at Warcraft III: the Frozen Throne, Blizzard Entertainment’s hotly-anticipated expansion pack for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. The new add-on began shipping last week, on hybrid CD-ROM for both Mac and Windows.
Apple’s Brad Cook explained that the new expansion pack picks up the story where the original game — which shipped in 2002 — left off. “The Lich King Ner’zhul’s soul sits frozen within the Icecrown glacier, a disembodied lord who searches for ways to free himself,” wrote Cook. “A renegade Night Elf named Illidan and the treacherous Death Knight Arthas head toward the Icecrown glacier in the hope of granting Ner’zhul his wish; your goal is to stop that from happening.”
The Frozen Throne introduces many changes to gameplay in the enormously popular real-time strategy game, such as the addition of new heroes, the ability to build shops that carry race-specific items, neutral heroes you can recruit, and many changes to multiplayer gaming as well, including clan and tournament support.
