Ambrosia Software Inc. has released a new audio utility called WireTap. Designed for Mac OS X 10.2 “Jaguar” or later, WireTap enables users to record any audio playing on the Mac — whether it’s an audio stream from an Internet radio station, sound from DVD Player, game audio, iChat AV conversations, or more.
Released as freeware, WireTap works using a tape recorder-style interface, according to Ambrosia. You click the Record button and any audio playing through your Mac will be recorded to disk, regardless of the source.
Ambrosia plans to integrate the technology that makes WireTap work into a future version of Snapz Pro X, its popular screen and video capture utility for Mac OS X.
WireTap is ready for download from Ambrosia’s Web site.
