Mac game developer Pangea Software Inc. has announced that its latest game, Billy Frontier, has reached its Alpha development milestone. The company expects a quick turnaround from here, and plans to ship Billy Frontier by the first week of August — perhaps sooner.
Pangea Software is the developer of popular games like Bugdom and Bugdom 2 and Otto Matic, as well as Cro-Mag Rally and other titles. Earlier this year Pangea President Brian Greenstone revealed plans to release smaller-scale games, and followed up with the release of Enigmo, a 3D puzzle-style game in which you redirect flowing liquid through mazes.
Billy Frontier is described as an arcade-style action game. You take the role of Billy Frontier a “space cowboy” who participates in four different types of mini-games: Duels, Shootouts, Stampedes and Target Practices.
Greenstone describes Billy Frontier as “… the kind of game you pick up when you need a break and just want to blast stuff,” and said that the game features more varied gameplay than any title they’ve done to date.
Pangea Software expects to release the game as a download with a US$14.95 registration fee. In a departure from previous Pangea games, there are no plans to put Billy Frontier on CD-ROM. More details and screenshots can be found at the Billy Frontier Web page.
