Thomson ISI ResearchSoft will introduce a major upgrade to the EndNote bibliographic software at next week’s Macworld CreativePro Conference & Expo. Due to ship next month, EndNote 7 for Mac OS X will provide subject bibliographies, more flexible image handling, and connectivity to mobilize reference collections.
With EndNote, you can personalize your reference databases by selecting which fields to display, by click sorting column headings, and by resizing the column widths. EndNote 7’s new Subject Bibliography lets you create a bibliography with topic headings. For instance, you can choose the field “Author” to view a bibliography organized by author headings and can update their curricula vitae and reading lists.
The new version will let you insert a figure or table anywhere in a Microsoft Word document. You can search your EndNote libraries for images to place figures and tables within the text, or to create figure and table lists at the end of the document, depending upon your publication needs.
EndNote 7 will let you create bibliographies with AppleWorks, FrameMaker, StarOffice, OpenOffice, and more via Rich Text Format (RTF). EndNote 7 scans RTF documents containing temporary EndNote citations and creates a bibliography. You can copy selected references from an EndNote library reference list and paste temporary citations into your document.
You can now move your EndNote references to Palm OS devices. This means you can search, edit, and beam references, as well as use the HotSync function to sync with EndNote desktop libraries.
EndNote 7 expands the ways to collect data from a variety of online resources and to publish manuscripts. You can edit standard import filters (such as RIS, tab delimited, and ISI CE) to move data between applications. There are also new and updated content files: 350 connection files, 1,000 output styles, as well as import filters and manuscript templates.
EndNote 6 costs US$295.95. Upgrades from previous versions are $99.95 — or $89.95 without a manual. The EndNote 7 for Mac OS X boxed product includes EndNote 5 for Mac OS 9 compatibility.
