MILES, the parent company of Elgato Software, the developer of EyeTV, will begin operating under the name Elgato, it was announced today at the Macworld CreativePro Conference & Expo. The company is also getting a new president and CEO who is a former Apple employee.
The name Elgato was chosen for the entire company to simplify the promotion of international name recognition. Building on the success of EyeTV, the company will focus on digital media solutions for the Mac.
The new president and CEO is Freddie Geier, who was formerly senior director of Business Development at Apple. He joined Apple in early 2000, after Apple acquired the DVD software developed by Astarte, where he was general manager. At Apple Geier managed application development projects, as well as strategic business development tasks such as the acquisition of Emagic.
