Panic and The Iconfactory on Monday released Pixadex, a new utility for Mac OS X billed as “iPhoto for icons.” The software enables users to import, organize and search libraries of icons. Pixadex also provides the ability to export icons to various graphic formats, or copy and paste them into Photoshop.
The software works with standard Mac icons, IconDropper packs and iContainers — a new format developed for Panic and The Iconfactory’s CandyBar software. You can search against filename, author, copyright and keywords, as well.
What’s more, Pixadex enables you to specify any icon to work with CandyBar, or you can drag and drop them instead. Export formats include TIFF, PNG and .ICN. You can set icons in the Finder using the QuickDrop feature, too.
Pixadex ships with an exclusive iContainer designed by Iconfactory artist Dave Brasgalla called On Safari. The application and document replacement icons sport what is described as “an adventuresome Safari theme,” and are rendered in the “World of Aqua” style.
Pixadex is distributed as shareware and costs US$18.95 to register. Registered users of IconDropper can get a $5 discount.
