Digital Peripheral Solutions Inc. is shipping the Que! DVD 2i, a dual format dual interface drive that direct-to-disk recording (DDR).
The Que! DVD 2i can be used as an external DVD burner. Or by utilizing its DDR capability, you can use a digital camera or camcorder to record directly to DVD media in real-time without saving images onto your Mac’s hard drive. Advantages are saved time (you don’t have to transfer video from the camcorder to the hard disk then to the burner) and hard disk space.
The external DVD burner offers FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces and supports DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW formats . It’s compatible with both Macs (Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x) and PCs and has a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$299.99.
It offers write speeds of 4x for DVD+R and DVD-R, 2x for DVD-RW, 2.4x for DVD+RW, 16x for CD-R, and 10x for CD-RW. The 3.6-pound Que! DVD 2i drive comes with Toast and Discribe software for the Mac, all cables, and a universal power supply.
