Xhifi, a new company with origins in the specialty audio and home theater market, has introduced the Xducer 2.1, a US$795 multimedia loudspeaker system built to maximize the audio quality in computers, digital music players, and game consoles.
The three-piece system boasts a cylindrical silhouette and a European cherry finish designed for its acoustical properties. The Xducer 2.1’s subwoofer is housed in a cherry cabinet that also contains a 50-watt subwoofer amplifier and a 50-watt Class “D” digital amplifier for the speakers. Additionally, there’s a 6.6-inch long paper cone driver with special coil and center cap designs built to accurately and quickly convert the incoming signal, then deliver ultra linear output.
The Xducer 2.1’s two satellite speakers have a vertical cylinder design and employ an ultra-high bandwidth 360-degree driver the delivers “enveloping” sound quality with frequency response out to over 50kHz. The gang at Xhifi says that this is twice that of typical loudspeakers and provides seamless compatibility with future higher resolution formats like DVA-Audio and SACD.
Later this year Xhifi will release a “multi-purpose desktop product” that will enhance the Xducer 2.1’s features with a variety of upgrade options, including: more powerful amplification circuits; digital multimedia playback for Memory Sticks, Compact Flash cards, Secure Digital cards, and Smart Media Cards; automatic 24-bit/192kHZ digital unsampling for improving the audio quality of compressed material like MP3 files; and additional speakers and amplifier channels for multi-channel formats such as DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, and SACD.
