LaCie is having the first public showing of the LaCie Ethernet Disk this week. The network file sharing system, which has a capacity up to 500GB, has a Windows XP embedded operating system that’s compatible with Mac OS X, as well as Windows XP, UNIX, and Linux operating systems.
The LaCie Ethernet Disk — which provides file sharing among cross-platform workgroups — has one Firewire and one USB port. It can be monitored, maintained, and controlled via any Web browser.
Made of aluminum, the Ethernet Disk can be used as a standalone device, stacked with other LaCie devices, or integrated into 19-inch computer equipment racks. The cost is US$599 for an 80GB version, $799 for a 160GB model, $999 for a 250GB device, and $1,499 for a the high-end 500GB system.
