If you’re one of those people who have wanted a long-rumored iPod-like device that handles video Avias Limited may have the device for you: the MEC Station Deluxe.
Described as a “portable entertainment center,” it has a 6.5-inch, 16:9 ratio LCD screen and is available with a 20GB or 40GB internal 2.5-inch hard drive. The MEC Station Deluxe can store and play back up to 50 DVD quality movies with stereo MP3 audio; it supports 704 x 480 resolution and up to 336,960 pixels color resolution.
It also serves as a portable DivX video player, supporting the DivX video format, as well as DVD. What’s more, the MEC Station Deluxe stores and plays videos, photos, and music in such formats as JPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, as well as MP3. Its Picture Zoom feature lets you magnify a selected area on the screen. There’s a slideshow function provided for photos.
A composite video output provides output to a TV or movie projector. Stereo audio output offers a direct plug-in to home theater systems. There’s also a headphone jack.
You connect the MEC Station to your Mac via a Firewire cable to move video and audio from your Mac. It can also read and write to Compact Flash, Smart Media, Secure Digital, and Multi Media Cards.
The MEC Station comes with an infrared-red remote control, an AC/DC adapter, and a Li-ion rechargeable portable battery. A fully charged battery will purportedly last 200 minutes playing a video and 1,000 minutes in standby mode.
