LightWork Design on Tuesday announced LightWorks Real-time for the Macintosh. The core 3D technology was developed to provide hardware-assisted 3D rendering to 3D visualization software — LightWorks is embedded in more than 80 applications, including Ashlar’s Cobalt and auto-des-sys’s form.Z.
Features of LightWorks Real-time include fast positioning of lights with real-time feedback, interactive material editing, accurate pre-visualization of final software-rendered scenes, and interactive photorealism.
The advantage such technology offers LightWorks integrators is the ability to integrate hardware-based rendering into their software without having to learn low-level hardware application programming interfaces (APIs). LightWork Design founder and product manager Woll Newall claims that adding LightWorks Real-time to an existing product takes only three function calls.
