EZQuest Inc. noted Thursday that it’s shipping its new Boa FireWire and USB 2.0 4x DVD+RW/-RW external drives.
The drives work with DVD+, DVD- and all CD formats, and the FireWire model includes Pixela IMX authoring software, used to encode iMovie files to MPEG2 to burn DVDs (software from Charismac is included to burn CD and DVD data, too). The drive also includes Retrospect Express, to schedule automatic backups. It carries a suggested retail price of US$299.
The drive writes to DVD+R and DVD-R media at 4x; DVD+RW and DVD-RW at 2x; CD-R at 16x and CD-RW at 8x. DVD-ROMs can be read at 12x and CD-ROMs at 32x. The FireWire version works with Mac OS X 10.1.2 and later and Mac OS 9.1 or later.
