Confirming news MacCentral first brought readers earlier this month, Macromedia Inc. announced Monday that it is shipping Contribute 2, a new version of its Web site collaboration tool. The new version works natively on Mac OS X and also connects faster and more securely to Web sites.
Contribute 2 makes it possible for individuals or groups of users to update content on a Web site, even if they don’t know HTML. Webmasters control what areas on the site can be updated and can lock out certain code elements they don’t want users touching. Macromedia claims that more than 15,000 companies use more than 70,000 seats of Contribute to keep their Web sites up to date.
Besides Mac OS X support, new features in Contribute 2 include support for SFTP, Macromedia FlashPaper Web document technology, and drag-and-drop integration with PayPal.
Contribute 2 costs US$99 and can be downloaded from the Macromedia Online Store. Existing customers can upgrade for $9.99.
