Mac game developer and publisher Pangea Software Inc. on Monday announced the release of Bill Frontier, a Mac-only arcade style action game that puts you in the role of a “space cowboy.”
The eponymous space cowboy has to survive four different kinds of mini-games: Duels, Shootouts, Stampedes and Target Practices. Pangea President Brian Greenstone calls the art and the music in the game “probably the best” of any game his company has done, with more variety in gameplay too.
Billy Frontier a different style of game than many Pangea fans may be accustomed to. Greenstone calls Billy Frontier “the kind of game you pick up when you need a break and just want to blast stuff.” While the company has emphasized the creation of large-scale action/adventure games like Otto Matic and the Bugdom series over the past few years, 2003 saw them took a break from that style of game to emphasize smaller-scale games. Earlier this year Pangea released Enigmo, a 3D puzzler in which players must direct cascading streams of liquid into their proper receptacles by manipulating various tools to reroute the water past barriers and around obstacles.
Unlike past Pangea titles, Billy Frontier is available only as a download — and Pangea plans to keep it that way. Users can download the full version for free, but it runs in a “limited” demo mode until you purchase a serial number for US$14.95.
