Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. has released new Envelope and Remote Update System (RUS) tools for Mac software developers. The tools are designed for the implementation of HASP, a hardware (USB key) based cross-platform software security and license management solution that’s compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.6-9.x.
HASP (Hardware Against Software Piracy) protects software against piracy and illegal use by preventing unauthorized access and execution of the protected software. It’s designed to let vendors who deliver products in a multi-platform environment increase revenues by enforcing license agreements and providing flexible sales models, via time-limited demos, concurrent or floating licenses, and remote updating of software modules.
The HASP Envelope Tool is designed to complement API (application programing interface) protection with features such as automatic implementation of anti-debugging and anti-hacking measures, as well as file encryption for securing code. RUS is a tool for managing licenses and upgrading applications in the field. HASP RUS for Mac gives software users 24/7 license updates, software upgrades and add-ons via phone, fax, e-mail, or the Internet, according to Avi Barir, Aladdin’s vice president of software commerce. It also allows developers to incorporate remote license updating routines into their software.
