Mac game maker Aspyr Media Inc. announced Wednesday that its Mac and PC conversion of the long-running skateboarding game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 has gone “gold master” and is now in duplication. The company anticipates seeing the game on retailers’ shelves by August 14th.
This is the Tony Hawk game’s third consecutive appearance on the Macintosh courtesy of Aspyr Media, and it’s also the first time that Aspyr has handled both the Mac and Windows conversions of the game. As with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, Aspyr is collaborating with developer Beenox Studios to bring this new game to market.
The franchise’s continued popularity on video game consoles has lead Activision to focus on those platforms, and the company agreed to let Aspyr license and publish Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 for both Mac and Windows — both versions are being released simultaneously. Beenox handled both Mac and Windows conversions.
In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, players assume the role of legendary pro skateboarder (and avid Mac enthusiast) Tony Hawk, or one of 13 other pro skaters as they make their way through “free roaming” levels, trying to obtain 190 progressively more difficult goals or build skills on their way to accomplishing 14 skateboarding stunts. A enhanced Career mode enables players to take on new Pro goals by accomplishing challenges specific to each pro skater’s own style and history. The game features new tricks, an online mode featuring up to 8 players at once, and much more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.1.2 or higher; a G4/733MHz or faster processor; 256MB RAM; 700MB hard disk space; and an ATI Radeon or Nvidia GeForce2 MX or better video system with at least 32MB VRAM. Multiplayer mode requires TCP/IP-based networking and a 56K or faster connection.
In related news, Aspyr has also released a QuickTime trailer of another new game — the recently announced Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb. This game is still fairly early on in its Mac development, but if you’re interested in watching a bit of the action, you can download the 25.9MB trailer from Macgamefiles.com.
