EVOQE has announced the release of solidThinking v5.5, a new version of its 3D design software for Mac OS X and Windows.
solidThinking is a NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline)-based modeling solution for Mac OS X and Windows. The software includes advanced modeling tools, can handle surface and solid modeling, features polygonal modeling with subdivision surfaces and more.
Changes in solidThinking 5.5 include the addition of features like Variable Radius Round, Chamfer (allowing users to perform filleting with a linear cross section); Shelling (shelling a closed surface by selecting the faces to work on); Solid Offset (enabling users to offset or inset a solid with optional round edgets); Fillet Surfaces; Patch; Trim Solids and Trim Convert.
The Skin modeling tool has been enhanced with the ability to invert profiles orientation; create caps at the start or at the end of the loft surface, and more; an enhanced Loft modeling tool that now has the ability to interactive adjust seam point location of closed curves and more; an enhanced Birail modeling tool, and lots more.
solidThinking 5.5 also integrates new rendering technology from LightWorks Design. What’s more, solidThinking 5.5 now supports DWG file import, and has enhanced support for DXF, IGES and others. solidThinking 5.5 is also the first version to support the MicroScribe G2 on the Mac — the MicroScribe G2 is a USB-based input device created by Immersion Corp. that translates 3D data from a physical model.
solidThinking is available in FORMA, DESIGN and VANTAGE packages, each targeted to different users. FORMA is a basic surface modeling tool; DESIGN is intended for industrial designers and style centers; VANTAGE is intended for engineering. FORMA costs US$495/€495, DESIGN costs $2,745 and VANTAGE costs $4,995. All packages run on Mac OS X. Visit the site for more details.
