.Mac users can download a new game from the service today.
Apple’s subscription-based .Mac service periodically offers free games for its members to download. The company has collaborated with Freeverse Software, GameHouse and other Mac game developers in the past.
The latest free game download available to .Mac members is GarageGames’ Marble Blast, a 3D action game in which you navigate a marble through colorful landscapes. The marble rolls through an elevated course that’s chock-full of moving platforms, oil slicks, fans and other hazards, while collecting powerups like SuperSpeed, SuperJump, SuperBounce, Shock Absorber and Gyrocopter to help make the going easier. Marble Blast is a 20MB download.
Marble Blast was released by GarageGames earlier this year. GarageGames collaborates with independent game developers to bring titles to market. Many of the game developers use GarageGames’ own Torque Game Engine to produce their titles. Since Marble Blast was released, GarageGames has also published Orbz and Think Tanks for the Macintosh; another title, Tennis Critters, is currently in development for Mac. All titles are available for individual download and sale from GarageGames’ Web site.
.Mac provides users with a Mac.com e-mail account; online file storage; Web page hosting; the ability to synchronize bookmarks, calendar data and other content between Macs; free virus protection software; online training material and other benefits for an annual fee.
