FireWire Depot LLC has announced the release of new FireWire 800 cables, bridgeboards, and a new FireWire 400/USB 2.0 combo enclosure as well.
The new FireWire 800 cables include new 9 pin to 9 pin offerings in 7-inch, 1.5-foot, 9-foot, 15-foot and 30-foot lengths. The company is also prepping a 30-foot cable that sports 9 pins on one side and 6 on the other (for connecting legacy FireWire 400 devices to FireWire 800-equipped Macs. Prices range from US$21.99 to $49.99.
The company also introduced a series of FireWire 800 bridgeboards that makes it possible for users to convert existing SCSI-based hard disk systems to FireWire 800 instead.
The IDE01FWB bridgeboard connects FireWire 800 to IDE (ATA/ATAPI) drives. It features Initio and Texas Instruments chips. The boards have the same SCSI 50-pin connector form factor, making it a suitable solution for users who want to remove existing SCSI connectors from the back panels of multi-bay SCSI cases and replace them with this one. FireWire Depot also sells variants that sport two external or two external and one internal bilingual connector. Prices range from $94.99 to $104.99.
Last, FireWire Depot is now offering the FireXpress-250SDX, a FireWire 400/USB 2.0 combo enclosure. The enclosure will accept any 9.5mm hard drive (commonly available in capacities ranging from 10-80GB). It includes a FireWire cable, USB cable, software, carrying pouch, DC adapter, and “FireCable” FireWire power supply, for $99.99.
