Canon U.S.A. Inc. on Monday introduced the i560 Desktop Photo Printer. The company noted this is the first printer to support PictBridge — a new emerging standard designed to enable cameras or camcorders to print images.
The USB-equipped i560 sports print speeds of up to 22 pages per minute (PPM) in black and up to 15PPM in color. A borderless 4 x 6 inch photo takes approximately 50 seconds to output on the printer.
In addition to PictBridge, the i560 also supports Canon’s own Bubble Jet Direct technology, which will enable the printer to output content from compatible cameras.
The i560 touts four individual ink tanks and utilizes the same print head found on Canon’s i850 printer, along with many of the same print engine components. The printer’s maximum resolution is 4800 x 1200 dots per inch.
Canon offers driver support for Mac OS X 10.2.1 to Mac OS X 10.2.x and Mac OS 8.6 – 9.x support; some software is included as well, though some of it appears to be Windows-only.
Look for the i560 Desktop Photo Printer to hit stores in August for US$129.99.
