dvGarage has released dvMatte Pro, a US$149 After Effects plug-in designed to handle the challenges of digital video footage by softening the scaled color channels while utilizing the unscaled luminance channel to regain the detail in the edges.
dvMatte Pro is available for that Mac and PC versions of Adobe After Effects 5.5 and 6.0. A version for Final Cut Pro 4 is due this fall.
“While DV cameras have revolutionized filmmaking, keying the footage shot with them has proven difficult,” Alex Lindsay, founder of the dvGarage, said. “This is because the color channels have been scaled to one quarter of the full resolution.”
In addition to creating clean keys from DV Footage, dvMatte Pro sports a simplified interface to speed the matte creation process. This make it easier to use the plug-in and also means shorter render times, according to Lindsay.
