United Developers subsidiary MacPlay is now taking pre-orders for Hearts of Iron, a World War II strategy game that will ship Sept. 15. The game will cost US$29.99 and is compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x.
Hearts of Iron offers gameplay on a global map and features every nation in the world during the time period it spans (1936-1946). You choose a country and build its technology and military to win World War II. You can even create “super-weapons” and take the war to any front you wish. Of course, in the process you’re likely to alter the course of history. You can take on computer-controlled opponents or head to the Internet to battle human players through the proprietary Valkyrienet matchmaking service.
Hearts of Iron is the next release in MacPlay’s distribution agreement with British publisher Virtual Programming. The game was developed by Paradox Entertainment, the company behind the Europa Universalis II strategy game.
