All 240 students and 40 teachers at Beachwood, Ohio Middle School are being equipped with Apple iBooks for the 2003-2004 school year, according to a Plain Dealer article.
In July the district leased the Macs for four years, spending US$300,000 of its $700,000 technology budget to start the program. Students and teachers will get the laptops next month once rules, programs and policies are worked out. Students will keep the iBooks as they move into high school. The laptops will be turned in after four years, and new ones leased.
Apple computers were perfect for the school, according to Principal Edward Bernetich, saying that “Apple seems to be more user-friendly for our kids. A lot of the programs they have seem to work better with some of the projects we are working on in our art and technology classes.”
