Hot on the heels of Apple’s release of the Power Mac G5 this Monday, Adobe Systems Inc. has released a plug-in update for its flagship digital imaging software, Photoshop. The update optimizes Photoshop for use with the G5.
The plug-in update requires Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 for Mac OS X and a Power Mac G5. It modifies many Photoshop operations to fully utilize the G5 processor’s capabilities, according to Adobe, and replaces the Adobe Color Engine component (ACECarbonLib) with a new version also optimized for the G5.
The 1.4MB download is free. Adobe cautions that the installer will only function on a G5, and the new AltiVecCore plug-in will only function with Photoshop 7.0.1, so make sure your system meets the requirements prior to download or installation.
