OpenOSX announced on Thursday version 1.2.5 of The GIMP, an open-source alternative to Adobe Photoshop. The update is accelerated for the Apple’s new Power Mac G5s.
Though this version of The GIMP — an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program — is built specifically for the G5s, it will operate on older Macs running Mac OS X 10.2.x systems. Version 1.2.5 features a customizable single-click installer that will install the many software libraries required to run The GIMP, along with documentation (in both PDF and HTML formats), tutorials, over 100 fonts, brushes, patterns, 600MB of plug-ins and a mirror of the GIMP Web site.
The GIMP 1.2.5 costs US $30 for the CD-ROM version and $25 for a downloadable version. Upgrades from previous versions are $15 on CD-ROM and $10 for downloads.
