Korean publishing software maker Softmagic Inc. has updated its page layout software and has made a significant price drop.
MLayout is a Mac OS X-native application that uses Quartz, support Unicode and bases pagination on XML and RTF. MLayout’s v1.55 update features improved display performance; can now find and replace attributes; improves table support with new functions like the ability to merge and separate tables, create tables with irregular shapes, and “anchor” tables; supports new export options like TIFF, JPG, and PDF of selected objects or pages and more.
MLayout had been offered for US$599, but now Softmagic is making MLayout available for $299 instead.
MLayout is part of a series of publishing applications and complete workflow solutions offered by Softmagic. Softmagic began life as a Mac-based system integrator for newspapers and large publishers; the company later migrated to NeXTStep software development. The company’s products include BookAssembler, a page dummying application, and SendStory, an XML editor designed to send and receive content from remote locations.
