Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH has posted information about Cubase SX v2.0 to their Professional Systems Web site. A cryptic hyperlink entitled Time for change steps users through a Macromedia Flash teaser offering a few details about the forthcoming version.
Cubase SX is a virtual music studio creation and production software application offered by Steinberg, available in both Mac and Windows flavors. The first version is already available for Mac OS X v10.2 and higher, and supports VST and ASIO interfaces.
The teaser indicates that Cubase SX v2.0 will sport over 100 new features, including a mixer with effect return channels, input/output objects and a “new Freeze function.”
Steinberg bills Cubase SX v2.0 as “the most powerful VST engine of all time,” with 32-bit floating point resolution, real multi-channel sound, and latency compensation across all channels.
“The platform you work on should be irrelevant for decisions about the software you use. Good software is written for users, and not for platforms. That will remain our firm belief,” reads the information on the site. “Steinberg is well known the world over as manufacturer of professional workstations for Windows PCs and for Mac. The new generation of Cubase is no exception.”
An image — presumably of the Cubase SX v2.0 box — shows a Mac OS X logo in the lower left-hand corner, as well.
The presentation concludes with, “Time for change. September 4th, 2003. Cubase SX 2.0.”
