Market research group NPD Group says that Apple’s iTunes music service registers the highest awareness of all paid-for music sites, with 20 percent of consumers over 13 knowing of the service, New Media Age reports. Among Mac users, the awareness level is 46 percent.
Six percent of Mac users also said they’d paid for a song or album via iTunes, while services like Rhapsody and Pressplay, which have been on the market for longer than iTunes, only showed 14 percent awareness among consumers, New Media Age reports. Less than 1 percent said that they had downloaded music from either site.
The iTunes Music Store is U.S. and Mac only for now. But European and Windows versions are in the works.
