Web Crossing Inc. has released a Weblog plug-in for its Web Crossing 5.0 software. The software enables users of Web Crossing 5.0 installations to publish their own Weblogs without having to do any server-side scripting or programming.
Web Crossing 5.0 is a collaboration server platform designed to facilitate online access to discussion groups and bulletin boards, newsgroups, mailing lists, calendar services, chatting and more. The software features a plug-in architecture that supports the expansion of the system with new capabilities; the new Weblog plug-in is just such a plug-in.
Web Crossing-hosted Weblogs can include support for categories, and can be access-protected to restrict access to individual Weblogs or Weblog entries only to those users with authorization to view them. The software also supports multiple presentation options like individual posts or summaries, forum views with visitor comments and more.
What’s more, the Weblog plug-in supports “moblogging,” enabling users to post Weblog entries from e-mail-enabled mobile telephones. And distribution of Weblog content can be done through e-mail and RSS subscriptions. The service can also be extended using Blogger and Metaweblog APIs. There’s much more, too.
The Weblog plug-in is free with any Web Crossing 5.0 installation, either licensed or ASP. Upgrades are available on a traffic-based sliding scale starting at US$119; new installations start at $295 (server-hosted solutions start at $65/month).
