Qualcomm has updated its Eudora e-mail application to version 6.0, adding spam filtering, contextual filing and more. The app is compatible with Mac OS X, Mac OS 9.x and Windows and comes in paid, sponsored and light modes.
The US$49.95 paid mode comes with the most features, no ads and offers access to person-to-person technical support and 12 months of upgrades. The sponsored version has an ad window, up to three sponsored toolbar links, and no person-to-person technical support. The light mode has no ad window, but has fewer features and no person-to-person technical support. The Eudora installer downloads in sponsored mode.
Eudora 6.0 is free in paid mode if you’ve purchased and registered in the last 12 months. It’s $39.95 if you have a paid mode registration code from version 4.3 or later.
Version 6.0 adds a SpamWatch component (paid mode only) that automatically filters out junk mail and places it into a predetermined “Junk” mail box. All versions of the update have a Content Concentrator” that “gets to the heart of an e-mail thread at a glance,” according to Qualcomm. With the Contextual Filing feature, you can choose a word within a message, and with one click, file it in a folder or mailbox of the same name, or containing that word.
The Mac OS X version of Eudora 6.0 has a Mailbox Drawer that offers access to all mailboxes from any mailbox window. There are also new toolbar icons, a more powerful search engine and enhanced filters that offer thousands of combinations for sorting and organizing mail box contents.
