When Pangea Software’s 3D action game Otto Matic first debuted on the scene, it was offered as a commercial release on retail store shelves. Now it’s available as a downloadable title that you can pay for online.
Otto Matic’s title character is a heroic robot on a mission to save humans from fleshy-headed alien monsters. It’s a colorful, comical third-person 3D action game rife with characters, sound effects and music that will appeal to fans of 1950’s-era science fiction B-movies and pulp magazines.
Pangea Software President Brian Greenstone said that he considers Otto matic to be the best game his company has ever done. “All of our other games have been available for download for a long time, but Otto Matic was the only one which was not, so we’re thrilled to finally be able to do this,” he added.
Pangea collaborated with fellow Austin, Texas-based Mac game publisher Aspyr Media to bring Otto Matic to retail store shelves, and also secured a bundle deal with Apple to get the game pre-installed on certain consumer Mac models as well.
If you’ve missed Otto Matic up until now, however, here’s your chance to grab it. With the publishing rights reverted to Pangea, Pangea has elected to republish the game as its own, distributing the title electronically and selling registration codes. You can buy the game for $19.95.
System requirements for Otto Matic call for Mac OS X v10.1 or higher or Mac OS 8.6 or higher; G3/266MHz or faster; RAGE 128 or Nvidia GeForce2 MX or faster 3D graphics; 96MB RAM. iMac users are required to have a DV-class machine or better. Pangea notes that the game will not run on pre DV-model iMacs because of graphics subsystem limitations on those machines.
