The Big Nerd Ranch — which offers training classes for Mac OS X and Unix and programmers — will be holding the “Core Bootcamp” Oct. 13-17 at their lodge outside Atlanta, Ga. Author-instructor Mark Dalrymple will train programmers on the Unix structure underlying Mac OS X.
Students will study the Core foundation of Mac OS X, learn to create multithreaded and multiprocess programs, increase their applications’ efficiency using the Performance Tools, learn Rendezvous and GDB, and authenticate and authorize users with the Security Framework, according to Dalrymple. The Bootcamp syllabus is online.
The class price of US$3,500 includes lodging, all meals, original instruction materials, 24-hour lab access and transportation to and from the Atlanta airport. A $500 tuition discount will be given to anyone who has purchased Core Mac OS X and Unix Programming by Dalrymple and Aaron Hillegass. Students are encouraged to bring independent projects to class to get input from classmates and individual instructor attention.
