PowerMail, the e-mail software from CTM Development, has been updated to version 4.2, which is ready for Panther, the upcoming revision of Mac OS X.
The new version of the “alternative to ordinary Macintosh e-mail applications” also adds new CTM fox-trot high-speed search technology, which the company says offers more search flexibility with performance gains of 300-500 percent. Other enhancements include increased responsiveness (PowerMail now launches and draws large lists faster), quicker filtering (such as fast filtering by message content), and the ability to search on cached IMAP information.
Version 4.2 is a free update to registered users of PowerMail 4.x; new copies of PowerMail are US$49. Version 4.x is the first for-pay upgrade of PowerMail since April 2000; all current registered owners of PowerMail prior to version 4.x are eligible to upgrade for $29 per copy. Discounts for site licenses are available. Though PowerMail 4.2 is ready for Panther, it maintains compatibility with Mac OS X (10.2.x) and Mac OS 8.6-9.x.
