Mac game publisher Aspyr Media today unveiled a new Web site design, and with it, two new forms of media that the company hasn’t previously worked with. Aspyr is diversifying into publishing music and DVD-based content.
Aspyr Media has primarily distinguished itself as a purveyor of Macintosh games, though earlier this year the company announced plans to publish PC games. Since then, Aspyr has brought forth both Mac and PC versions of games like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, Spy Hunter and soon, Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer.
More recently, Aspyr branched out to Game Boy Advance titles. Its first GBA title, Wakeboarding Unleashed Featuring Shaun Murray, is currently in duplication. Another game, Activision Anthology, is anticipated for a November release.
Now on the eve of AspyrWorld, a private gathering sponsored by the company scheduled for later this week in Aspyr’s home town of Austin, Texas, the company has tipped its hand on future business plans: The company is going to publish original music and DVD works, as well.
Music includes efforts by Austin locals Knife in the Water and Milton Mapes, while the company’s nascent DVD library includes three documentaries, including acclaimed filmmaker Richard Linklater’s (“Slacker,” “Dazed and Confused”) 9/11-related opus, “Live from Shiva’s Dance Floor.”
In related news, Aspyr Media notes that its Mac games X2: Wolverine’s Revenge and Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer are both at the Final Candidate development milestone. Also at Final Candidate is the Marine Mania expansion pack for Aspyr’s recently released sim-strategy game Zoo Tycoon.
Aspyr’s roster also shows five other Mac games in various stages of development due out by October of this year, along with The Sims: Superstar — the latest expansion pack to be readied for Aspyr’s Mac version of the blockbuster hit The Sims.
