Digital Media Online and Profound Effects Inc. have teamed up to release two free plug-ins — Create Bullnose Mask and Transfer — for Adobe After Effects and Avid’s video editing products. Both are now available for download.
The Create Bullnose Mask plug-in for After Effects plug-in lets you create a rounded rectangular mask (sometimes known as a bull-nosed matte) on video or solid layers. Without it, you’d have to switch to an application such as Adobe Illustrator to draw the rounded mask, copy it, then paste it into your After Effects composition.
Transfer is a plug-in for Avid editing systems that lets you composite video tracks using transfer modes (also known as blending or apply modes). Normally, the video in a higher video track completely obscures the video in lower video tracks, according to Digital Media Online. Although you can use a Superimpose effect, your only blending control is for opacity. By using a transfer mode, you can control how the pixels of a video track blend with the pixels in lower video tracks to create a stylistic effect. The Transfer plug-in also lets you control how much blending is performed, as well as how the transfer mode settings are interpolated between key frames.
