In Sunday’s Houston Chronicle, an insert called Ultimate Houston featured the coolest, the “ultimate,” attractions in the Texas city. The Apple Store was dubbed the ultimate cool store.
“Not coolest computer store or electronics store, but the coolest store of them all,” Dave Trevas of Houston told MacCentral.
In describing the special section the Houston Chronicle editors wrote: “For this special section, we sought out things that make Houston special. We scoured the area, from The Woodlands to Friendswood and Katy to Pasadena, to come up with our list of the best of the best. While searching for the area’s ultimates, we found the best bar to dance on, the fastest freeway to nowhere, the ultimate comedy act on television, the best-looking Astro and the perfect pampering place for a metrosexual.”
The newspaper says the Apple store exudes high style. “No traditional signage is needed; instead, the entrance is emblazoned with the bite-out-of-an apple logo illuminated against a black wall,” the Chronicle says. “The interior is clean and cool, with light wood floors and stark white walls accented with big color photographs and bold graphics. Each product, from awesome iPods to silvery Power Macs, is showcased on a stand. And it’s OK to play with the new toys. It’s no wonder the store has become a gathering spot for computer-savvy trendsetters, even if they own a PC instead of a PowerBook.”
