on Wednesday released MacWasher X, a Mac OS X-native version of their software previously available for “Classic” Mac OS. MacWasher X is privacy protection software that securely overwrites or “bleaches” files. MacWasher X’s data erasing techniques exceed Department of Defense standards, according to Webroot Software.
With MacWasher X installed, you can wipe clean data from your Web browser’s cache, cookies, history, mail trash, drop-down address bar, auto-complete form info, file download information and more. You can also erase instant messaging chat history, log files and conversation tracks from apps including Proteus, MSN, ICQ, AIM and more. MacWasher X also scrubs data from your trash, favorites list, log files, Sherlock history, recent items list, temporary files folder, receipts and more.
In addition to Mac OS X native support, MacWasher X also offers users a more detailed list of application choices, added browser choices including Safari, Mozilla and Opera, and other features. Users can now “AutoWash” their Mac by specifying a schedule for when cleaning is to take place.
MacWasher X requires Mac OS X v10.2 or higher. The software costs US$39.95. It’s available direct from the Web site and will also be on retailer’s shelves.
