Eovia Corp. on Thursday shipped Carrara Studio 3, making good a promise the company offered at Macworld CreativePro this past July. The company is shipping an English/International version of the software for Mac and Windows.
Carrara Studio 3 is a 3D graphics package designed to provide content for the Web, print and video. The software includes modeling, texturing, animation, rendering and special effects tools. Eovia counts more than 400 new features and improvements in this major upgrade.
New to Carrara Studio 3 is Eovia Impression, a new rendering engine, and Photon Reality 2.0, a global illumination renderer. Alpha channel rendering, raytraced soft shadows and other rendering features have also been added. New modeling tools like Dynamic Extrusion have been added, as has a UV editor with shading domains, a bevel tool, “Eovia Tree Maker” and more.
What’s more, Carrara Studio 3 sports a redesigned interface and a “Scene Wizard” with more than 150 pre-defined 3d scenes, more than 400 new shaders and texture maps. The software also sports integrated Shockwave export capabilities.
Carrara Studio 3 is available for Mac OS X and Mac OS 8 and 9 (as well as various flavors of Windows). It carries a suggested retail price of US$399. Upgrades and sidegrades from previous versions and other 3D products are also available; visit the Web site for details.
In related news, UK-based IDG digital content creation publication Digit magazine is providing a free copy of the older Carrara Studio v1.1 release on a CD-ROM included with the magazine. It’s a full, unencumbered version of Carrara Studio for Mac and Windows, and includes hundreds of free models and textures to help you get started.
