Shrapnel Games and Illwinter Game Design have announced that Illwinter’s strategy game Dominions 2: The Ascension Wars will soon be published. The game ships with support for multiple operating systems, including Mac OS X.
A sequel to Swedish developer Illwinter Design Group’s earlier self-published title, Dominions — Priest, Prophets and Pretenders, Dominions 2 “doesn’t stray too far from the original” formula, according to the companies. It’s a turn-based strategy game set in a fantasy environment that the publisher likes to Age of Wonders or Warlords. The game includes single-player and multiplayer modes.
“Deep doesn’t even begin to describe Dominions 2 gameplay yet the object of the game is fairly simple,” explain the companies. “You’re a god, but you’re not the supreme god, and well, you sure in Valhalla want to be the big cheese in the sky. So what’s a god to do? Send in the Krishnas? Direct mailers? No, you raise up some armies and start kicking the other gods’ arses until you’re king of the hill. Of course doing such entails more than sending a stack over to your opponent to call down the pain on his warriors’ heads.”
To that end, you raise armies, hire mercenaries, besiege strongholds, create mystical items, perform assassinations and much more. More details about the game are available online.
Shrapnel noted that Dominions 2 is in late beta, and anticipates shipping the game in late October. Pre-orders are being accepted for US$5 off the regular price of $44.95.
