LightWork Design Ltd. on Wednesday announced the release of a PowerPC G5-optimized version of LightWorks, its 3D graphics rendering engine. The company claims that LightWorks is the first rendering engine to be released for the G5.
LightWorks is embedded in other company’s 3D graphics applications. Auto-des-sys uses it in form.Z, for example, while Nemetschek NA uses LightWorks as part of its VectorWorks package. Ashlar’s Cobalt, Gestel’s solidThinking and other software uses it too.
LightWork Design’s internal testing shows that the G5-optimized version of LightWorks runs 1.3 times faster than its predecessor. What’s more, it uses multithreading technology that maximizes its performance on dual-processor G5 systems as well.
