Stone Design on Friday updated its US$299 Stone Studio product suite, which includes a new version (11.2) of Create, the illustration-page layout-Web authoring application, and PStill (3.0), which converts PostScript files to PDF, combines files, shrinks PDF and more.
The updated apps are available for download individually or as part of the Mac OS X compatible Stone Studio. Registered users can download the revised software at no charge. Create 11.2 adds the ability to outline plain text and other new styles, the ability to do text completion while typing choices, compatibility with Panther (the upcoming Mac OS X 10.3) and more.
PStill 3.0 lets you create “secure” PDFs with various password protection and encryption options. You can also transcode encrypted PDF (if you have the password). Version 3.0 also adds support for Type 4 fonts, the ability to normalize for prepress any file to PS or EPS, the capacity to set the version to PDF spec 1.5 (Acrobat 6) as well as earlier versions. Also, image transparency is now respected in transcoded PDF.
