Apple Japan is reinforcing its direct sales structure in order to expand sales of personal computers and servers, according to the Nikkei Business Daily. Part of the bolstering effort includes immediate plans to increase staff in its direct sales division from 20 to 50-60 workers.
Apple Japan is also aggressively hiring contract sales agents, the Nikkei Business Daily reports. The direct sales staff will focus primarily on universities and other institutions of higher education, as well as small and midsize digital content firms, market segments that “distributors have not been able to adequately cover due to swelling sales costs,” the article adds.
Up to now, Apple Japan has relied heavily on distributors to sell computers and servers. However, sales have been hurt by the fact that most of the customers have been individuals, the Nikkei Business Daily says.
