America Online Inc. on Monday announced the release of AOL Communicator for Mac OS X. AOL Communicator is a standalone software application that provides access to AOL e-mail, instant messaging, and address book data, separate from the AOL application itself.
AOL Communicator consolidates e-mail from multiple AOL screen names, and can also be used to check other e-mail accounts that support POP and SMTP standards. It provides intelligent spam filtering capabilities as well — spam can be displayed in a separate color or stored in a separate spam folder for review and deletion. The software provides flexible sorting, filtering and folders for e-mails archival, also.
Users can also use AOL Communicator’s Address Book features to display contacts by a “friendly name” or nickname rather than an e-mail address. It automatically synchronizes with the AOL Address Book, so it works wherever you access AOL’s services.
AOL Communicator also provides built in AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) service and mail features. Users can display the names of other AIM users in their Buddy List, and when an AIM Buddy sends an e-mail, an indicator will appear next to their name in the Buddy List window.
AOL Communicator is now available for download from AOL itself — AOL users can grab it by using AOL Keyword: AOL Communicator.
