Audio technology developer SRS Labs Inc. has announced SRS Circle Surround VST Pro, a plug-in for software that supports Steinberg’s Virtual Studio Technology (VST) format.
Designed to work on both Mac OS X and Windows XP-based systems, the new software features a Circle Surround encoder and decoder to help audio engineers and musicians deliver 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound mixes.
SRS Circle Surround VST Pro works with any surround-capable VST-compliant application. The encoder supports up to 7-channel input and 2-channel output. 44.1kHz, 48kHz and 96kHz sampling rates are supported, along with full bandwidth playback of up to 3 three distinct rear channels.
The Circle Surround format has made inroads in television, where it’s used by major broadcasters and cable companies. It’s also licensed to manufacturers of electronic equipment where it’s used in receivers, televisions, computer software, sound cards and even automotive systems.
SRS Circle Surround VST Pro carries a suggested retail price of US$499 and is expected to begin shipping in November.
