The Savoy Label Group — the North American unit of Columbia Music Entertainment (formerly Nippon Columbia), the oldest music company in Japan — is making its music catalog available at the iTunes Music Store.
The label represents the works of such jazz legends as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Eckstine, John Coltrane, Jimmy Scott and others, as well as such current artists as Hubert Laws, James Moody, Lou Rawls and Andy Bey. What’s more, the company’s new repertoire includes adult contemporary artists such as Joan Armatrading, as well as special projects such as the upcoming “Bird Up: The Charlie Parker Remix Project,” which features remixes of Parker songs by artists and producers such as Dan the Automator, The RZA (Wu Tang Clan), Serj Tankian (System of a Down), El-P, The X-ecutioners and others. It’s due for release on Oct. 21.
SLG offers over 3000 classic and contemporary tracks in their catalog. The company will also be offering tracks available only through the iTunes Music Store, such as an exclusive cut from the “Bird Up: The Charlie Parker Remix Project.” As part of the “Bird Up” promotion, you’ll be able to buy the bonus track, “Constellation (Heavenly Bodies),” produced by underground hip hop artist/producer El-P, as an alternate mix available only through iTunes Music Store.
