Fellow United Developers LLC subsidiary MumboJumbo let it slip in late September that Activision Anthology: Remix Edition was heading our way, but MacPlay today confirmed the news. The anthology of classic Atari 2600 games is soon coming to the Mac. The company plans to have it in stores in time for Christmas.
Activision Anthology: Remix Edition is an augmented version of the game originally released for PlayStation 2. It includes more than 75 favorites originally published by Activision for the legendary Atari 2600 video game console — games like Barnstorming, Chopper Command, Freeway, and many others. And if you’ve already bought the PlayStation 2 version, you’ll find an additional 30 titles on this collection.
Activision Anthology features both a “Classic” mode, that recreates the games as they were originally played, or a total of fifteen different enhanced gameplay modes, like Ricochet, where the game bounces around the screen; Cube mode, which causes the game to appear on a rotating cube; Whirl mode, and more.
The game also features an 1980s-era soundtrack with music including Fresh Prince, Flock of Seagulls, Alan Parsons Project, Billy Ocean and other artists; the ’80s flashback is made complete with a menu interface designed to look like a teenager’s bedroom of the era.
Look for Activision Anthology: Remix Edition to hit Mac store shelves in time for the holidays; it will also be available for pre-order from the MacPlay store. Its suggested retail price is US$29.99.
