Yesterday we listed a number of special events and activities designed to celebrate today’s release of Mac OS X 10.3 (“Panther”). Since then, we’ve learned of still more festivities.
Just about every CompUSA that has an Apple Solutions Consultant will be having a “Night of the Panther” event. A list of those stores that have posted in-store events can be found online. If your local CompUSA isn’t listed, give them a call to see if they are having a Panther party. And the CompUSA in Austin, Tx., is now only having a Panther party, but is also offering discounts to members of the Austin Macintosh User Group (http://www.capmac.org), according to President Glenn Chase.
Visual Dynamics, Inc., Brevard County’s Apple Specialist on Florida’s Space Coast, is holding a special event from 7-10 p.m. with copies of Panther going on sale at 8. The store is located at 220 E. Eau Gallie Blvd, Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.
“We will be having wine, cheese and other refreshments, door prizes, discounts, giveaways and several other activities during this very special event,” Jason Wooten, president of Visual Dynamics, told MacCentral.
The University of Central Florida Computer Store will hold a Panther event starting at 8 p.m. The store will also sell copies of Mac OS X 10.3 to students for US$49 tonight only. The University of Central Florida’s Computer Store serves the UCF community and Central Florida area community colleges.
What’s more, lots of Mac User Groups (MUGs) are planning Oct. 24 events. The Spartanburg MUG will hold their own ” PantherNight.” The Macintosh User Group at the Rochester Institute of Technology is organizing a car pool trip for their members to the Buffalo Apple Store for “Night of the Panther.” And the North Coast MUG will help host a “Panther Party” at their local CompUSA. Go to the MUG Center for details.
Not all the parties are being held in North America. LJS, an Apple dealer in The Hague, Holland, is offering Panther for €100 in a celebration of its release and the dealer’s recent shop renovation.
The Indiana University Bloomington Bookstore Computer Connections will be having a Panther launch party from 8-10 p.m., according to Mike Sassman, Apple campus representative for Indiana Unversity Bloomington (http://www.indiana.edu/). The launch party will be held in the Indiana Memorial Union.
