When Iowa state budget cuts meant the Johnston School District would have to postpone plans for a portable computer lab, the Wallace Elementary School PTO donated US$32,200 to outfit the lab, according to a Des Moines Register article.
The lab will be equipped with 25 laptop computers, which the article describes as “iMac Powerbooks,” along with a wireless hub and a portable cart. Of course, since there’s no such thing as an iMac PowerBook, the laptops are most likely iBooks or 12-inch PowerBooks.
Budget cuts in the past few years in the school district have affected the school’s technology fund, Joyce Giles, PTO co-president, told the Register. But with the PTO’s help, the 25 laptops mean that every child in a classroom will have access to a computer during the use of the lab.
