St. Clair Software has updated Default Folder X to version 1.9, which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 (“Panther”). The update also adds new hierarchical menus and a system menu to make navigating Open and Save dialogs faster.
Default Folder X is a utility that improves Open and Save dialogs in Mac OS X. It lets you type in the names of files and folders in file listings; shows you where you are; gives you access to windows you have open in the Finder; and more.
Versions of Default Folder X prior to 1.9 are incompatible with Panther — St. Clair Software notes that under Panther, every application will immediately quit with Default Folder X v1.8 installed. Users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to the new version prior to installing Panther as a result. The update works with Mac OS X 10.2 (“Jaguar”), as well as Panther.
Default Folder X costs US$34.95. Version 3.x users can upgrade at a $15 discount; ACTION Files users are offered a $10 competitive upgrade discount. A 30-day demo of Default Folder X 1.5 is available for download from the St. Clair Web site.
